Every Moment Can Be a Memory...

Last summer, I posted a blog all about speciality sessions. After doing a warm weather ‘funky’ inspired session with my youngest, I wanted to post about them all over again! I feel as though when we think of photography sessions, we are aiming for some sort of perfection and straightforward idea of what it has to be. Many people are more comfortable letting the photographer take the lead, but I would absolutely love to see more client creativity shine through! If you haven’t already, go on over and read part one HERE

For this blog, I’m going to be rambling about all the sorts of reasons I think people should at least add special details to their sessions… and maybe I’ll even throw out some ideas I think would be just darling.

1| Why you should try to do a specialty session/personalize your session

Photographers tend to have a style they lean towards, or even a sort of set theme they may default to. It certainly makes setting things up easier when we have multiple clients, and it’s a good way to ensure consistency in what we know works. The con to this, I must say, is a lot of times sessions for different individuals can come out looking a bit similar. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing at all, and some people are just fine with this safety net, but I know there are many people who would love the opportunity to let their creativity show in these photos they may very well display in their homes.

This is where including unique elements can come into play. Things like this can really make your session stand out against others, and no one is necessarily saying you must stick to the blueprint assigned. It is simply a guide that photographers provide when we get inspiration for a photoshoot. Most of us truly love when clients come in with new ideas and ways to express themselves! It makes photography truly an art form.

2| What sorts of things can you incorporate?

The idea of having some freedom when it comes to your session can be daunting. Here I have compiled a list of things to inquiry your selected photographer about potentially integrating.

-Your family pets

-Family mementos

-A holiday theme (halloween, easter, or anything else you can imagine!)

-A birthday photoshoot, beyond just the little ones (one years get the most love, but I want all ages to get love!)

-Candid photos (could be at various locations such as an art gallery, a coffee shop, a bookstore, etc.)

-Non-traditional life events (This could be things like graduation, prom, a concert, etc.)

-Things that represent you as a person (Could even be hobbies! Art, music, reading, etc.)

-Recreating past photos (The pose, the location, etc.)

There are so many more ideas out there, and I encourage absolutely everyone to consider looking into some unique aspects to add to their sessions! It doesn't have to be big, and it doesn't have to be small, whatever truly resonates with you is a good enough reason to do it!

I hope this was enough to convince you yet again to personalize your sessions. As always, if you have any questions click here to contact me! Until next time everyone!
