I love the simple life...

It is now time for me to talk about some of my absolute favorite studio style sessions; my simple and sweet minis. There are so many perfect things about these sessions, and I absolutely adore when I get to run them! You may be wondering, what is a simple sweet mini, and are they as adorable as they sound? Spoiler, the answer to that last question is absolutely yes, but I’m going to convince you of that through today's blog!

1| What is a simple and sweet mini?

A simple and sweet mini is exactly how it sounds; simple and sweet! A lot of times, these sessions focus on kiddos. I like to think of them as child and adolescent version headshots, or sibling photos. The simple part comes from the back drop and the clothing that parents will choose for their kids to wear. I ask that things are kept simple, and usually these minis will take place right up against a simple backdrop. The reason for this simplistic setting is so the focus really remains on the subject(s) of the photo.

2| What are simple and sweet minis used for?

I have heard of various uses for these pictures. Sometimes families want an updated photo of their kids but don’t want to do a full family mini session. A lot of times, mini sessions are rather seasonal and could even be themed holiday wise. Not everyone wants Christmas photos up year round, or even fall photos up during the summer. The true benefit of the simple and sweet minis is that they are not seasonal, and truly fit in any time of the year! Think of them a bit like your kids' school photos except classier and more professional.

3| What to know about S&S mini sessions

So obviously the focus in these photos is keeping it simple and focusing on whoever is in it, but with that there are some things to keep in mind! First of all, we try to keep the amount of people in the photos to a minimum. The settings that are usually made for these sessions are small, in order to again keep the focus on the person/people. That said, talk to your photographer if there are multiple people you would like to have in it so they can properly prepare and adapt, or let you know that it is not possible to do group photos with them all! Keeping it simple allows for multiple unique individual photos!

Another thing to keep in mind is the clothing choices: avoid patterns and super eye catching colors or designs. I tend to think solid shirts with a solid pair of pants work the absolute best when it comes to styling for these sessions. If it’s too overwhelming clothing wise or two muddled, the effect of the simple sweet minis becomes lost.

That's all I have today on simple and sweet minis, and I am counting down the days until I can do them again! Be sure to keep an eye on my Instagram and other socials for postings about future simple and sweet minis, and as always contact me if you have any questions at all! Until next time.
