Congratulations Class of 2025!

I can’t believe it’s that season already, coming around to the time of senior pictures. This year, I have so many seniors I’m grateful to be taking the photos of, so I decided to do a little update to the senior blog post, and share just why I love doing them so much!

If you haven’t already, please check out the first post on senior sessions HERE to know what has already been covered.

1) What kind of things am I allowed to include in my session?

Your senior photos are supposed to encompass you as a person in your time through high school. They symbolize the change and growth you have gone through, and welcome new beginnings. Think of it this way; they are meant to show all you have done through thirteen years of schooling. I always encourage individuals to let their personality shine through in some way or another!

For example, a dancer may do some sort of action shot striking their favorite dance position. These always looked beautiful in long flowing dresses, and are a great way to highlight something you loved throughout school and your life. If you play any other sports, take some photos in your uniform! Yes the teams do sessions individually for you, but this is a way to get something really personalized and unique. If you’re an artist or someone who likes to read, use a prop and take that to your advantage. There are some really beautiful candid shots that could come about. Do you have a favorite place or study spot through high school? Talk to your photographer and see if it’s possible to get some pictures there!

It's also possible to nod to your future career, or honor the places you have been. This could be past schools you went to, and one you may have committed to if you're going to college. Sometimes I even think corny signs and poses can make cute pictures, it's okay to be a bit silly with it!

Senior sessions are all about putting these memories together cohesively, so you can look back many years to come and remember who you were. There are so many ways you can uniquely construct your photos, don’t hesitate to branch out.

2) How can I use my senior photos?

So some schools allow you to submit a senior portrait. This is a photo outside of your school photos, but has to follow some restrictions. Make sure you and your photographer get plenty of options just in case, and also so you have choices to pick from. This gives you a way to control how you will be represented in your final hear book of your graduating year. It gives you a bit more freedom and self expression ability, rather than settling for the picture day photo you've had for twelve years prior.

Senior photos are commonly used for graduation parties. It’s so fun to be able to print pictures and put them up on boards, make signs, display the pictures in frames, and so on. I also encourage seniors to use them to make an invite card, as this is a way to share your pictures formally. Since your graduation party is all about you, let yourself be displayed! The senior sessions come in handy for this!

A lot of seniors also like to post their photos throughout the year, on every Sunday I believe. It's a fun way to celebrate and countdown to graduation day, and a way to share your pictures with your peers. Senior photos can also make great beginner photos to include on a resume if need be, or to put on a professional profile! If you need something in specifics, again, communicate your needs with your photographer!

Note: Senior sessions generally take place at the end of summer or early fall BEFORE you graduate. This ensures time for your photographer to edit and release the photos to you. Be proactive and begin your search if you haven’t already!

I love working with seniors, so please, if you have any questions regarding your session or how to go about scheduling one, reach out to me anytime! I'll do my best to answer your questions! My availability is filling up pretty fast, but I would still be happy to offer help.
