Time Together as a Family is a Gift...

A question I’m commonly asked is how often should you rally your crew together to do a family session. To that I say, the answer isn’t necessarily easy and depends on your preference and a few factors. In this blog, I’ll cover a couple things to consider!

First off, I like to say it depends on the age of your children. When they’re young, they are constantly changing and growing. It seems like those sessions become outdated quicker than they do when you kiddos are a bit older. A lot of families like to display these sessions in a way that looks like them. The caveat to that is that, like I said, when the kids are young I recommend at least once a year. This can be a daunting task, due to the fact that there’s a lot of things to prepare. Matching the outfits, figuring out what kind of session you’ll do, what season, and coordinating your busy schedules with the photographers. There is a lot of benefit to planning in advance, so I recommend getting things all figured out far ahead so nothing overlaps.

It also depends on what kind of photos you’d like done. There’s holiday photos, studio sessions, or outdoor sessions… even the seasons can depend on your vibes. I recommend looking into some of my other blogs for your answers there! Some people want updated photos to put out for certain holidays, and seasons, so that’s something to consider what you would like!

As your kiddos get older, you just get busier. I’d say capturing those moments become a bit less of an importance for some families, but I truly encourage you if it's slipped by you for a few years, to appreciate the way your family has grown! You may be shocked to see the differences that has occurred since your last session. I know if you’re anything like me, we take pictures of our kids all the time, but this usually either ends up with your only ‘family’ pictures missing one parent or being an awkward selfie. It is so worth setting aside that time in order to get somewhere you don’t have to fret about anything photo related. As kids get older, the sessions go faster and get easier. It’s a lot less difficult when they can listen a little bit better and communicate for themselves!

This was just a brief rundown of things to consider when figuring out how frequently to do photo sessions. For me personally, I do a full family session once a year, usually in the summer or fall. I just love having those updated pictures that I can display throughout the year, and they always turn out so cute.

I encourage you to look at my other blogs in order to get a better understanding at what your personal preferences may be. I’ve done blogs on all the seasons, outdoor seasons, studio sessions, holiday sessions, specialty sessions, and more!
