"The years last lovely smile..."

One of my favorite seasons is just around the corner once again! It feels like so long ago I wrote my first ode to autumn, and here it is yet again. I feel the need to update this post, and add to it yet again. For us here in the Midwest, fall time is a fleeting moment, and as fast as the leaves seem to come they go yet again. Today, I think this will be a ramble style post, talking all about just why this season is a moment that needs to be caught. If you missed part one, go check that out from last year.

Last post, I talked about clothing and how I think it is easier to find things for fall time photos… which remains true even now! The wonderful thing about fall is the ability to dress to the weather. There are plenty of hot days in the fall, but also mixed with plenty of cold. I recommend everyone have backup outfits just in case for unexpected weather! The last thing you want to happen is to be decked out in sweaters and scarves in 80 degree weather, or be wearing flannels when it’s 40 out.

Something else unique to fall is all the aesthetics you can lean into. Fall is filled with some of my favorite vibes. Pumpkin spice to brown boots, there’s a little something for everyone! To theme a session, you could do it at an apple orchard, a pumpkin patch, do something silly with costumes for Halloween, go for the more autumnal leave vibe, or make it more back to school basic photos for your family. There are so many cute ideas that can be leaned into for this time of year, and the colors tend to be so flattering for just about everyone and easy to blend! The oranges, reds, and earthy colors are just to die for. Furthermore, if you have a little one around this time, I adore when families lean into cute but spooky. A little costume or onesie with pumpkins all about can make for the most adorable photo session!

This is a good time to mention that availability for fall sessions fill up fast! Please check my socials for more information on my availability at the moment. Myself and other photographers have some of the busiest seasons during fall, so even if you’re looking for October to book, you need to begin the process now!

I hope you enjoyed this brief ramble about the beautiful fall season, and the reminder to seek out a session if you hadn’t considered it yet. As always, if you have any questions, please reach out!
